This guide provides information on creating a personalized custom mix (myMIX).
The general steps in creating your myMIX are:
- Search for your favorite songs
- Add songs to your Playlist
- Select your BPMs (tempo)
- Preview your transitions
- Share your myMIX with friends
- Download the music
- Do-Over option
Before diving in, we suggest that you have an idea of the type of music mix you'd like to make as it helps to have a starting point (i.e. Top 40 Pop Mix, Summer themed Mix, Club Music Mix, etc.)
*The steps in this guide assume you have created a Yes! Fitness Music account and are logged in to the website. If you are a current customer of Yes! you already have an account. If this is your first time with us, take a second and set up an account by clicking on the top link "Log In".
Searching for Songs
- Start by clicking on the Genre buttons
You will notice a series of buttons on the myMIX page with names like "Top 40 Pop", "Rock", "Latin Music", etc. Click on one of the genres you like and the song results will show up in the song window below the buttons. Blue text will show up under the music player to help you remember which button you clicked.
- Type in an Artist Name or Song Title
If you have a specific song or artist in mind, simply type what you are looking for in the search box and hit "Search". The results of the search will show up in the song window below.
Quick Tip: If you don't find a song or artist you are looking for, try a different spelling (Madonna vs Madona) or a general key word (Twilight vs Twilite).
- Sort the song results
Once you have songs showing up in the search results window, you can sort them by clicking on the column headers (Title, Artist, BPM). Clicking once will sort the songs by A-Z or lowest to highest, while clicking twice will sort the songs by Z-A or highest to lowest.
- Listen to samples of each song
Start listening to samples of the songs by clicking on the "play button" to the left of the song title. To pause playback, click the "pause button" located in the player window above the song titles.
Quick Tip: Once a song is playing, you can skip into the track by clicking in the progress bar to the part you want to hear. Clicking around in this bar while the song is playing is a great way to quickly preview a song.
- Explore additional pages
If there are more than 20 search results, clickable page numbers will show at the bottom of the results window. Don't forget to click on the pages to see additional songs related to your search.
- 2 Important Tabs
You might notice that right above the Title column are 2 Tabs (some search results won't bring them up but most will): one is labeled "Chart Hits" and the other is "Exclusive". These 2 Tabs separate your search results into 2 categories to help you explore the Yes! music catalog more efficiently. The "Chart Hits" tab shows you recognizable/popular songs related to your search while the "Exclusive" tab shows you songs that are original compositions that you won't find anywhere else. Don't forget to explore the results on both tabs as you might be surprised some of the gems you might find.
Quick Tip: You can also type in words like "Call" and myMIX will return all songs with "Call" in the title. This can be a creative way to come up with fun ideas for myMIXES.
Adding Songs to Your Playlist
- Method 1: Click on the "+" button
Once you find a song that you want to put in your mix, simply click the "+" button to the left of the title to add it to your playlist. You can always change the order of your songs later.
Quick Tip: If you want to save a song for later, click the "heart" button to the left of the title and it will be stored for you in your Favorites bin that you can access at any time. You need to be logged in to use this feature.
- Method 2: Drag and Drop
Alternatively, you can drag and drop any song by clicking/holding/dragging on any part of the row that the song is on and dropping it in the Playlist area.
Quick Tip: Click the "X" button on a song in the Playlist to delete it.
- Put your songs in order
Once you have 12 songs in your playlist, start dragging them up and down to put them in the right order by clicking on the song while simultaneously holding down the mouse button and dragging/dropping it in the new location.
Select the Tempo (BPM)
Now that your songs are in somewhat of an order, it's time to select the tempo for your myMIX. You can do this in 3 ways:
- Free Form
Click on the the drop down drawer named "Choose BPM Settings" located at the top of the Playlist window. The first BPM option is "Free Form". This is the default option and allows you to assign a specific BPM to each song in your playlist. Use this option if you want to specify a different BPM or series of BPMs to your mix.
- Flat BPM
The second BPM option is Flat BPM. Select this option if you want your myMIX to play at the same tempo throughout the entire program. Select the tempo in the drop down menu and myMIX will assign it to all songs in your playlist.
- BPM Range
The third BPM option is BPM Range. Select this option if you want your songs to increase or decrease in tempo over time. Simply choose a starting BPM and an ending BPM and myMIX will gradually change the tempo over time automatically.
*Click "Apply Changes" to have myMIX save your BPM setting.
Quick Tip: To hear a song at the BPM of your choosing, drag and drop it into the Playlist window, change the BPM and click the "Play" button. This way you can preview the same song at different BPMs and decide the right one for your purposes.
Preview the Transitions
So you have the right songs and you have the right BPM settings. Now it's time to listen to the transitions between the songs.
Start by clicking on the circular icon in the middle between 2 songs. Clicking this button tells myMIX start playing the DJ-style mix between the 2 songs. Depending on your internet connection, myMIX will start to play a little section of the end of song A, then the mix, and lastly a bit of the beginning of song B so you can see if you like the way they go together.
If you want to change the order and listen to how a different combination goes together, rearrange your songs and click the circle icon between the 2 you want to hear.
The music player will display the information about the currently playing mix. You can skip around the mix by clicking inside the progress bar.
Quick Tip: Now is a good time to name your mix by clicking in the gray bar above your Playlist and typing in your title. You'll be able to choose a cover graphic as soon as you click "Mix & Checkout"
Quick Tip: If you're not ready to complete your myMIX at this time, you can click "Save Mix for Later" and myMIX will archive your work in the "My Mixes" area that is accessed through the link at the top of the page.
